Sticky key

Post by SteveMorris »

What is the best way to ease a sticky key? It only sticks when keyed heavily. Thanks a lot. Steve Morris

Upright or grand piano?

The front key rail (one with the lock) may have warped inwards slightly, so catching on the key front at a certain depth. Check the gap between the front of the key covering & rail. If catching, remove rail & sand down.

If its not that, key(s) may need easing slightly where bushing cloth - however if a grand piano, you need to remove the mechanism.... also the opening centre rail hole may need filing or easing - if in doubt, get a tuner to sort it out.
