Adolf Lehmann

Post by KarinaAndersen »

I have been doing some research around my Adolf Lehmann Piano. A piano tuner says its from before the 1. world war. I know Adolf Lehmann and Company started in the 1890, and the Man who sold it ,Einar Kaland, from Bergen, started in 1897. BUT, in the back of the piano it says 1991, and then 35963 (under 1991). And my mother bought it from an old lady in the 1980. So why does it say 1991?

Most pianos have several numbers inside, and although they meant something to someone at the time, many mean nothing to us now. Most firms went through a period when serial numbers resembled years, and 1991 may just be a number.

A piano I used to tune appeared to be dated 1917 on the keys, and had a serial number in the 15,900 range.

Without photos, we can't tell you any more about the individual piano.
