J.S.Bach, Bruxelles

Post by piano15369 »

Hi,

I was wondering if somebody here could help me out with my piano. I think it's a Belgian piano, at least that's what the name suggests, and I bought it in Belgium.
The name/brand is "J.S. BACH Bruxelles". I find nothing about it if I google it except loads of information about Bach himself. I bought it 3 years ago and didn't receive any information. I think the serial number is 18856 (only number I found so far). Would be really great if somebody knows something about it, of even heard of the brand.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Piano info/history ?

Post by Colin Nicholson »

Look up "Stencil pianos" on google, this will tell you about many hundreds of pianos that 'slip through the system' and become named by wholesalers. Names are just added to pianos that simulate composer's names, well know towns/ cities/ and even the middle name of the wholesaler, or his friend.

Your piano looks early 1900, and is straight-strung with an over-damped mechanism inside. (Nick named the 'bird cage' action)
Regrettably photos of just the top and the name dont tell anything about the piano at all - it needs to be viewed COMPLETE - showing pedals, legs, truss work, panelling design.

The serial number cannot be traced, so I wouldnt be concerned about that.
There is no 'blue book' or any kind of history book about these pianos, of which most are obsolete now - so you need to just concentrate on any local knowledge you find, and whether it can be tuned or not? Premises will probably be replaced with a block of flats!

Hope that helps

Not much to add to Colin's comments, except that composers' names are commonly used as fake names on pianos. Pictures of the whole piano would help, but any further clues will be hidden inside.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Collin, yeah I read something about stencil piano's. And think this is actually what happend here.
It does has an over-damped mechanism but is an overstrung piano. I'll see if I can upload more pictures.
Bill, You are right about finding more information inside the piano, well on the back that is, I found a other logo and I think it says "PIANOS RIESENBURGER", heard of this brand before? sorry for bad image quality, the logo is in pretty bad shape too so had a hard time figuring out what it said.
