How to sell a Schimmel 116s upright

Post by DannyBrierley »

I have a Schimmel 116S upright piano finished in black polyster and purchased new in April 2000 that I now wish to sell. I like the convenience of selling to a piano re-seller but, not surprisingly, prefer the price of a private sale! Is there a compromise? The piano's serial number is 335629 00502/ 20 bpV. It has been tuned every six months since original purchase, has had light use in recent years, and I live in Stourbridge, West Midlands. Any thoughts? My mobile is 07794 268 347.

Hi Danny

You obviously have a piano for sale, and you ask if there is a compromise in selling it to a retailer as opposed to a private sale, of which you have answered this yourself .... ''price''

We are also not sure what you mean ''any thoughts'' ? as you have not asked any questions about how to sell your piano privately, but instead ''started off'' an advert for selling it (in a roundabout way). I don't think anyone would ring you, nor show any interest in your piano without photos and more info, and having said that - this forum page is for general advice only. If you click on ''Pianos for sale by the general public'' - on the left here, there is a place to advertise it there.

You only need to quote the first six digits for the serial number, and you should also mention that Wilhelm Schimmel was German, and the ''Schimmel Piano Company'' was established in 1885 - originating near Leipzig (and had to move to larger premises in 1897 because they expanded so much), the company is still in existence today, and one of the largest piano organisations in the 21st Century and very successful. You also should mention the tone & touch of the piano - things like that.

If you claim that your piano has been tuned ''every 6 months'' which we don't doubt, however, this would need to be proved - ie receipts/ invoices (and mentioned in your ad that you have kept them all).... and also how frequently has the piano been serviced and regulated ? (again, including invoices).... this is separate to tuning.

Hope that helps....
