Living so near to Norwich, I probably have more information on Howlett than anyone else, because he was the main maker around here. No precise dates of numbers are available, and his pianos had several different numbers, but this could be in the region of 1900 or 1922...

Hotek wrote:I bought this Piano as a conversation piece a few years back and was wondering if anyone could help with the history. I found two numbers 3352 was stamped on the wood and 9093 was on the metal harp. Thanks in advance.
We also have one but with the following numbers:

1228 / 4046.

Is this from the same period as mentioned above ?

Their serial numbers are not all in the same sequence, and this suggests that they were made by more than one factory. Stock numbers imprinted with the name are a better guide to date, but the following list is only estimated.

1905 4,000 1910 6,000
1915 7,000. 1920 8,000
1925 10,000
