Bechstein #44723

Post by AndrewB »

I have recently inherited a Bechstein upright piano and as i dont play and i have no room to store it i will have to sell it but i know absolutley nothing about pianos so i would like a rough valuation and a little background info on the piano so i dont rip myself off when i come to sell it...The piano was owned by my father in law who was a music teacher so it was well used and although it could do with a clean i seems in pretty good condidtion...It isapprox 120cms high from front of keys to back is 58cms and the serial number i think is 44723

We are not licensed valuers. Nobody anywhere can give you a valuation without inspecting it and tuning it, and the most important aspect of "good condition" is whether the tuning pins are tight enough. The number suggests that it was made in 1897.

For a 'quick sale' - no hassle - removed in minutes - ring about 2 or 3 piano shops, or possibly a piano tuner/ restorer who may be interested in it...... and accept the best offer - cash in hand. Dont expect alot - its a good name, but if its the 'snap on sticker' mechanism design similar to the model 10, and with it being encased in ebonised black polish, these are very out-dated now and out of fashion. Most trade/ shops wont charge you for their call-out.... and they will make you an offer.

However, if you prefer to sell it privately, like Bill says, you will need to pay someone to inspect & tune it - then advertising costs, and relying on an unknown source of 'removal gang' to have it shifted....

Or.... have a look on Fleabay to get an idea of prices.
