How to upload an image....
Post by Colin Nicholson »
Dear members,
If you have seen a particular piano/ model number/ online or face-to-face that you may be interested in, we cannot directly answer questions like
"is this piano Ok?"
"has anyone heard of this piano? "
"what is this piano worth?"
"the seller has asked £XYZ, is it worth it"
or similar worded questions (e.g. Yamaha U1) for us to comment about its quality or status.... all pianos are different, even with top names, and ALL pianos differ in condition, depending on previous ownership.
One of our professionals may suggest an asking price is too expensive/ cheap, but we cannot then openly discuss a RRP without you, as the piano cannot be seen inside & out. You will need to research this by looking at other pianos/ visit local piano shops.
This depends on the condition of the piano, which may require an inspection by a piano tuner (for a valuation). If you have seen a piano you like, and wish to comment on it, we will need to see some internal and external photos (including the mechanism), or a link (copy + paste) sent to us which when we click on it, it will direct us to the advert you have read (e.g. Ebay) so that we can look at the advert wording / price and piano in some detail just like the way you have looked at it. Without this information, we are unable to comment.
A piano name & model number is not just for one individual piano.... they made thousands of the same model, and each piano will have its own identity/ condition and serial number.
We have a dedicated team of piano specialists here on this forum with decades of experience and qualifications, who can give you valuable information about your piano. Just like an antique dealer squints at a serial number or hallmark through a magnifying glass, they can determine the exact execution of the script by the way it has been punched/ etched/ printed or stencilled - for pianos, this is the same, but we look out for correct numbers such as the serial number execution & script (font), and the all-important condition of the mechanism internally. Please note that some numbers inside pianos are stock or parts numbers (not job numbers) - and our team can quickly spot this...... so we need to see what you are looking at.
If you see a piano for sale on an auction website, many amateur sellers guess the price (looked elsewhere for a similar price), provide average photos (without the full mechanism), and very amateurish wording indeed - so the only professional aspect of their piano is the price! Therefore it is always best to have the piano inspected by a qualified technician, if the piano is of some value. You could start by sending us a link, but it will usually end by an inspection being required.
Try to think about explaining about a piano in the way you would want information about a house or car - same with pianos. "Ford Escort MK II, registration XYZ/ price £6K" ...... is this car worth buying? // is the price right?
See below how to send your photos and send us your link.

Having difficulty putting your piano into words?
Wanting to know the approximate age of your piano?
Can't find the serial number?
Need to show us something in more detail?
Need to know what is broken/ missing .... and its name?
**If the piano name you mention is not heard of/ mis-spelt (maybe on purpose to make it sound German!) or not a popular brand, or if it is a STENCIL PIANO (look up "Stencil Pianos" on Google).... then we must see about 2-3 photos of this piano.
Photo 1: Whole piano. Photo 2: Name on the fallboard (close up) Photo 3: Mechanism (with top lid folded back, then front panel AND fallboard removed)** Whatever it is, just follow the numbered images below to upload your images onto this forum.

Please remember that even if you send images of your piano, this still cannot tell us the condition & value of the piano - and so, we still cannot give you a valuation. Images may help to determine the age of your piano, and provide us with other information that may be useful to you - such as: Design/ model of piano/ fault diagnosis/ other problems/ naming parts of the piano.... that sort of thing.
PIANO RATINGS
Based on research and personal experience, whoever is dealing with your enquiry may be able to give your piano a rating from 6 stars to 1 star - however this a rough guide only, available upon request, and at the discretion of the expert.
6 star = Concert standard (superb quality)
5 star = Excellent
4 star = Very good
3 star = OK to good
2 star = Lacking something/ below average
1 star = "Noisy furniture" - a Viking's funeral expected
