Brietmann Upright; Age?

Post by Jim »

Hi,

I wondered if you could help trace the ancestry of my piano!

Piano pics

I bought it around 1975 from a restorer. There are serial nos on the piano itself (K58716) and the harp (58716).

Thanks in anticipation.

The piano is certainly a Kemble, and the number suggests that it was made in 1937. I can't account for the name on the front, perhaps it was repolished at some time, and lost the original name, or it may be that someone sold it brand new with that name on it. See

Bill,

Thanks for the prompt and informative reply.

Do you think that Brietmann may have been the name of the retailer that originally sold it? Did they do 'own brand' pianos in those days? :D

The funny thing about it being a Kemble is that I've been trying out new pianos in WIlliams in the Gateshead Metro Centre (not that I can afford one at the moment!) and I liked the Kembles best. Maybe because I've been playing one for the last 30 years!

The "oen brand" idea is covered by my "aliases" article at the link I sent you. Just click on it and have a read.
