knight piano vintage

Post by brecker »

We are trying to have accurate information regarding a Knight Piano we received around 1970. Are you able to confirm or clarify any of the following information? Did Knight make a model K-10? Did they have a model that was referred to as the "Slimline"? And I found 2 numbers one inside the piano (on the harp) the other outside in the wood (on the back) Inside the number says#42322 / outside the number is #40311 - does this clarify the date it was made? Thanks so much for your expertise!CJ

Yes, there is a Knight K10 - a small upright piano, usually with rounded corners on either side of the top lid. I have heard of the term "slimline" - but never actually seen it written on the piano - so I suspect the seller or trade person may have just added this word to give the effect of the piano being small & compact (often is the case buyers dont have alot of space for a piano).... so 'slimline' maybe just used as a selling technique.

Knight also did another short piano without curved corners & a sloping angled lid.

There is only one serial number on a piano (and only one reflects the date), so if you see different sets of numbers - some of these are just 'stock' or parts numbers if stamped on the wood - and dont mean anything. The serial number will be the one on the gold cast frame (as you rightly called it the harp shape).... and the serial number #42322 (inside) suggests the piano was built around 1966.

If you want us to fully & accurately verify these sets of numbers, then you should download images of these numbers and send them to us - we will see their font size, positioning on the piano, and design are unique and we can then confirm this for. you.

If your piano is labelled inside "Knight K10".... then it will be a Knight K10 - the K10 is just the model letter & numbers..... surely though, if you own a Knight K10 (since 1970) - then you will see it on the inside of the piano? If it doesnt say K10 - then it wont be a K10!

Hope thats helpful.

If you take out the bottom key, there may be a stamped date on a label underneath it on the key bed.
I play for my own amazement... :piano;
