Knight Piano 25031
Post by Rhiannon9590 »
Hey Everyone!
You are all very knowledgeable about Knight Pianos and was hoping you could help me date mine. I live in North Carolina US, and came across a woman giving away her piano. She described it as old and claimed it was used on wooden ships for entertainment. I didn't take much she said to heart so I called a piano tuner near me and asked if there were somethings to look for before I picked it up. Surprisingly the piano was very well taken care of (tuned every 6 months, only 2 sticking keys) and the woman has had it since she was 6. She is now a piano teacher and needed a full size piano for class. So I thought score free piano. Well now I am really curious about the history. I lifted the top and it says:
Reg. Design 812773
Knight
British Patent; 477297, 496082, 530671
Far right corner says 25031 (Serial number maybe?)
Is there any where else I should look to maybe find a date? The front has a panel with a little knob so I thought It could be opened but instead i managed to pull off the knob. If anyone has any ideas I welcome any. Also my whole family lives in England and would love to know where Knight Pianos were made if thats possible. I can post photos as well.
Thanks,
Rhiannon Pritchard

Wooden ships in the sense of pre-steam galleon-type things? Knights didn't exist then. 25031 should be about 1960, but if you look at pianogen.org you will see how to look for dates on the keys. The other numbers are not helpful, they appear on hundreds or thousands pf Knight pianos. The factory was at Debden, Essex.

Knight Piano 25935
I am looking for assistance in determining the age of the Knight piano we just purchased. We live in Colorado, USA, and can't seem to find Knight on the US websites or tuning guilds....
The piano number is 25935.
Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Our tuner said it is in great condition.
regards,
Steven

The number suggests that your piano was made in 1960, but it will probably be dated on the keys. Have a look at "gen about pianos" at pianogen.org
