Larg & Sons London

Post by colinf44 »

Hi,

I am new to the forum so apologies if I make a mistake with this posting.

I have a question, I am interested in a Baby Grand Piano which has the name Larg & Sons London on the centre above the keyboard.

However I cannot find anything on this make or dealer, can anyone tell me anything about this make regarding quality, age range etc.

I would be very grateful if anyone has any information for me.

Many thanks for your time.

Regards Colin.

Larg & Sons (Dundee) were a well-known retailer from at least the 1890s to the 1980s, and Larg & Sons (London) were certainly in business from at least 1897 to 1960 to my knowledge. The name doesn't tell us about the piano, which would have been made for them by a wholesaler. Some were made by Monington & Weston, some were built in Germany. Are there any markings inside, such as a stock number preceded by L? Baby grands of the 1900s are very difficult to assess, but if you upload some photos of the whole piano, we may find clues.

Hi Bill,

Many thanks for your prompt and informative response.

I have taken many pictures on my digital camera but not sure how to attach them to this mail as can't see that I can upload them, it would appear they have to be saved as a URL, please advise.

I couldn't see any marks other than Patent Number on the metal frame 311470, 3rd digit looks like a 1 but could alternatively be 31:470.

Regards,

Colin.

The top item on the list should help you. I had the same trouble, but it is not necessary to use that URL method, just choose an image from your computer.
