Hello! I am hopefully buying a piano tomorrow. I have been searching for a very long time for the perfect piano, and I have found a lovely old Chappell upright that is still in concert pitch. I think this was a pretty lucky find! I am having some last minute anxiety about it though, and would appreciate some reassurance.
The piano needs to go in my living room. Because of the shape, it has to go in a specific corner. There is unfortunately a radiator right next to its spot, though. There are two radiators in the room, however it is a very big room in an old Victorian building, so even when they are both on for most of the day it can be freezing in the winter. I plan to have a humidifier for the piano, but after reading advice from a lot of people, I am worrying that this will not be enough. I am actually considering not buying one afterall. I do not want to ruin a lovely antique instrument after it surviving so well after such a long time.
I rent my house, so I don't think I could get the radiator moved, but even if that would be allowed, I would not be able to do it soon since the piano itself is a bit of a financial stretch for us at the moment. I would really appreciate some reassurance if possible, or advice, or if necessary than to be told that a piano would be a bad idea for us. Thank you in advance.

A board with some reflecting material on it and put it between the piano and the rad that will help when the heating in on high then put the board behind the piano when the rad is not in use
Put some water in the bottom as soon as you get it in the house to help till you get your humidification put in place Older chapels are nice pianos but the bass bridge can unglued if you dry it out too much its a common fault on 1920 30 pianos

Thank you! The distance to the radiator is a little bigger than I thought. It will be about two feet. I guess this means I can search for a piece of furniture to put between the two. I am in Scotland and it has been raining, so our humidity is pretty high right now.
