J&J Hopkinson London

Post by Tbennett »

My mother has a beautiful piece that has the number 10,087.  It also has J and J Hopkinson, london on the front.  Any idea of the age, history.  A recent tuner came in and stated it was museum quality. Thanks for any info you can provide.

As I explained in my email, my own website states that the early numbers published for Hopkinson are wrong, and #10087 suggests a date before they even arrived in London in 1846. Are there any other numbers inside?

A Hopkinson which I inspected at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life has two numbers - #1100 & #1254 - and is thought to be from about 1853.

Museum quality is difficult to define, and over here, most museum won't touch antique pianos!
