Pease Family History please !!

Post by tinateaspoon »

Hello everyone
I wonder if I can ask for your help. I have just started finding out about my family history and have found that my Great Grandfather was a "Pianoforte polisher/foreman".
I have very little information of what type of job this was, his name was George Pease born 1881 in London and died in 1932 Essex. He lived in Leigh on sea in Essex and travelled everyday into London.
I remember my Nan talking about her dad and saying that his hand was bent over because of all the polishing he did, and she use to boast that he was the first polisher to poilsh a grand white piano in London (how true that is who knows lol !!)

It also appears that other members of the family were in the same trade, his cousin Henry Pease born 1877 and a sister (unknow name). I would be very grateful for an insight to his trade and if anyone has any information of perhaps a company that he use to work for or any tips on how to find this out i would be very grateful.....Thanks very much for reading kind regards Tina.x

I have a unique collection of piano lists, but these only apply to people who were in business in their own name. Sadly, there is no way of actively researching the thousands of employees of the London piano trade, but the name of a foreman might sometimes appear inside a piano to indicate that he had checked the work done on it. I have never come across Pease, only my friend Peter Pease, who plays jazz guitar.

RSI and Arthritis often attacks polishers' hands, wrists and fingers because of the sustained pressure for many hours at a time.
