New v's Second hand?

Post by Lewis »

I am looking to buy a new piano.
Through my local piano dealer I have seen many pianos, and was impressed by their Steinhoven range. I was looking at buying one of their new upright pianos at around £2500-£3000.

I have also been offered a Welmar Piano, (2nd hand - 1979, good condition) for £1700

Would anyone strongly recommend one over the other? and as Steinhoven are relatively new, would any one be able to provide some impartial feedback?

Thanks!

Welmars are nice pianos but depends on condition, never heard of a Steinhoven so cant comment on them.

only tuned a few Steinhoven pianos they take a lot of tuning very spring pin once settled in and the reg improved. they are OK for the price

Myself I would be recommending the Welmar to my clients if it was in good condition over the Steinhoven you need a tuner to look at the Welmar

Steinhoven seem to be an Irish brand, produced in China, with some German and British input: http://www.steinhoven.ie/about.html

I came across some of them yesterday when I was doing a job at a dealer in Wales. Didn't really get a chance to have a good look at them.

Its a no brainer,if Welmar is in sound condition and tunes to pitch seems a reasonable price, the other make is a brand made in China for an Irish importer, better left alone.
