Zender piano

Post by dona »

Hi,
I would like to know the age of my Zender piano with a serial number 47540. It also has an inscription "Specially Made For The Tropics". What do they mean by this?
Thanks and Happy New Year.

Very few dates of serial numbers are available. Are we talking about a modern Sydney Zender here, or an antique Henry Zender? Although the term "tropicalisation" is still used, it stems from the sale of victorian pianos to the more tropical areas of the empire, and the need for special glue and screws etc. help the piano withstand the climates.
