Louis XVI piano?
Post by Bill Kibby »
Interestingly, although pianos are often described as being in the "Louis XIV" or "Louis XV” style, there were no french pianos before Louis XVI. There were very few piano makers in France at that time, and from memory, I can only recall Erard, Paris making a piano for Marie Antoinette. In the 1890s, makers like Erard began producing Art Pianos in various early styles, some illustrated as being played by Napoleon. These were in very convincing styles, but much too modern technically to be confused with the originals. I will have a look for the name, but it is unlikely to be the piano maker. Please follow the instructions below to send me some photos, I am intrigued!
