Knight piano
Post by jeffrey smith »
i own a special edition Knight piano made for an international event at the Wigmore Hall in 1983. It has a plaque on the back stating " This soundboard is manufactured from European Spruce identical to material used in Stradivarius violins ". Is this unusual and would it account for the pianos exceptionally bright tone?
Re: Knight piano
Most Knights I've seen have that plaque on the back. I think it's just that it was wood from the same region, the wood of a piano soundboard is obviously thicker than a violin.
The bright sound most probably comes from hard hammer heads which Knight pianos have.

The plaque is likely a cheeky marketing ploy. The piano isn't likely to be a one off commission.
