The Ultimate Piano Klavins-Klavierbau

Post by A440 »

Was just reading my Pierce Piano Atlas (a quiet day at the shop!) and came accross Klavins-Klavierbau which was a new one on me.
Quite extraordinary!

Bit of a bugger to change a return string if you are on your own

Yes! They've got some new models out soon which look less like diving boards and more like yachts.

How stupid. Surely the manufacturer has never sold one to a genuine customer!?

There's a very long and interesting thread on Pianoworld forum dating from 07 but no recent update. I think it's amazing innovation -which is very seldom practical- but without it we wouldn't have things like pianos.
I can see them being like church organs built into concert halls of the future perhaps, but maybe not for normal home use.
I'd like to know more recent news, the inventor himself seems very forthcoming with information- may try to contact him to see if he'll post here.
I think perhaps he's a bit jaded by laypeoples initial negative reactions.

By the way I did promise to post more on the Sauter toning technique in a previous thread and never did. This was because it all turned out to be rather top secret!

I think they worry that walls have Chinese ears! When you see how blatantly all their designs are ripped off I can understand it. These are techniques that have been perfected through trial and error for centuries and are worth even more than a 30 foot piano!
