Menzel Piano
Hi Bill Kibby!
I have a question. My Friend and I went yesterday to Hamburg because he bought a Menzel Piano (inscription Menzel & Co. Berlin) but we didn`t find any information about the age of the Piano. The seller told us the Piano was be probably made in the 70's. The Piano also have the inscription "mecanique Schwander a repetition J. Hehrburger Paris". Can you tell us anything about this piano? By the way my Piano G. Adam from 1918 (I asked you in Nov. 2010) sounds very good!! Thanks Maico from Germany

Re: Menzel Piano
Regarding your (Wilhelm?) Menzo piano, apart from seeing that jazz pianist Walter Norris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Norris has a 1920 Menzo grand, I'll leave it to the specialists to tell you more about this Berlin manufacturer.

I was playing the piano in a zoo, when the elephant burst into tears. I said, "Don't you recognize the tune?" He replied, "No, I recognize the ivories!"

It's not a Menzo, it's a Menzel. The Schwander action should have a number on it somewhere, and I may be able to date that number, but otherwise, no information of any great value is available about Menzel, except that he was established in 1890.

Whoops! My mistake. Must get those dyslectic typing fingers seen to. (I'm picking up bad habits on this forum......)
Believe my links are still relevant however.

Yes, I have fingers like that, they usually get the right letters, but not necessarily in the right order.
