Piano Felt Manufacturers Lancashire

Post by oakwoodbank »

Hello all

I want to try and find out about a firm in the Ramsbottom/Bury area of Lancashire that traded in the name of Horrocks and that manufactured felts for pianos. They were certainly in business in the 1920s and 1930s. I believe that the firm sold their products internationally.

I will be grateful for any information that can be given to me about this firm; in particular the address from where it manufactured the products and any details of the owners/management of the firm.

Hi Alan,
Welcome to the forum and I hope you find the info you need.
Was it a family connection of yours?

The above link may be able to help you with your enquiry - they are 10 mins down the road from where I live, and still in production today; based in Pudsey/ Stanningley Road - opposite Richardshaw Lane - LS28. I visited them in the mid 90's.

You may find that 'piano felt people' are also connected with the wool and gaming industry? Perhaps narrowing your search to felt on a piano will virtually be impossible to trace. Hainsworth make bushing cloth (eg for piano keys), box cloth, felts baize - and also supply many billiard table companies, of which there is one in Huddersfield - but can't remember their name.

Regrettably many companies have now closed down - including 'Woolcombers' of Bradford, and any small company in those days may not have any records.

Good luck in your search.
