Knight piano
Hi, I have been offered an old Knight piano in need of some work in my opinion. It's pretty old, about 70 years I think with the serial number 4729. I suppose I really want to know how much is worth spending on it to get it to my house and in good working order? Any help very gratefully accepted.
Regards, Theresa

The number suggests 1942, and there is probably a date under the bottom keys. Nobody can guess the value or condition of a piano without tuning it.

Theresa,
I suspect that when you say you have been 'offered' the piano, is this for free or for very little? Do you know the person who is offering it?, they may have already been quoted something for repairs? (some keep it quiet) - so then to make sure there is no 'come back' - they pass the burden onto someone else!! and free!
Rather like an AA Car inspection, some piano tuners/ trade will come out to give the piano an inspection and 'pre-tune' to ensure there is no irrepairable damage, or that the piano repairs possible are not way over the economical value of the piano.... so best to get it checked out first.
Assuming the delivery is normal access & within a local distance - should cost around £70 - £100.

Re: Knight piano
Thanks everyone. Yes have been offered free from a genuine lady who thinks the piano is in good order! Have taken your advice and have someone coming out to inspect it and give their opinion. Just wish I had something else to ask as responses are good and fast!
Thanks Theresa

Also, take some photos showing the outside and inside of the piano and add them to this topic. That will help us give you some better info. Get nice and close and use a flash, especially for the shots of the inside.
In my experience, when someone who does know a lot about pianos describes one as "needs a tune" or "needs a fix" it normally translates as "needs not to be touched with a barge pole"
If you just need a free piano in good working order to get you started please reply below and I'll see if I've got something in the warehouse suitable. All you'd pay is delivery and you can choose whichever mover you like (I recommend pianospeed, G&R, piano logistics and tenniswoods. Or hire your own van and I'll load it on for you but you are on your own at your house)
