Upright Beethoven Piano

Post by overton »

My wife inherited a upright Beethoven piano about 30 yrs ago. We are trying to establish it's manufacturer and age. The serial No is 144616. It apparently arrived in South Africa with her Grandfather some time between 1905 and 1915 originally from Brighton UK. This is according to info provided by family memebers.
Thanks for your assistance

Composers' names are a popular choice for aliases on pianos, and german ones are even more popular! Even if this is the original name of the piano, is doesn't tell us who made it, and the source could have been New Jersey or London, so serial numbers don't help. See

Found the following name under the keyboard lid:
PATERSON N. J.
UPRIGHT CONCERT GRAND
Could this with serial No 144616 help to establish it's age etc?
