I know its been 5 years since your post, but were you ever able to find any information out about the Stedman & Co piano? We run a demolition company and found an antique grand piano sitting alone in a barn that the county wanted demolished.. we took it thinking it might be worth something as a piano... but the more research I do it seems that it is antique, rare, and short lived. I dont know how to find more info. If you can, please call me at 530 681 2210 or email me at chasetinsley@gmail.com
thank you

I don't know what happened to my original response to this posting, so I will start from scratch. Can you give me any clues as to where in the world Stedman was, or even where the piano is now? If you email photos to me, I may be able to tell you more. I have over twenty thousand piano names on file, most are not listed on the internet, and many are meaningless aliases. I know of Steedman, but Stedman does not appear on my computer files. A name on its own tells me nothing about the individual piano, and searching through card and paper files for a name involves hours of work, checking over a million entries manually.

I have no experience of Stedman, New York, and no more facilities than anyone else for looking up American firms, so I'm sorry I can only suggest New York local history sources.
