Ludwig New York upright info...
I have a Ludwig New York upright in my home in Boston. I would like to know how old it is...I know the woman who used to live in my house when she was a little girl...and she said the piano was there before she was born...she is 86 right now.

Ludwig pianos were made from 1888 to 1953, and some dates of serial numbers are available, if you can find the number, probably inside the top. Beyond that, I have very little experience of pianos from that side of the ocean, and could not compile a detailed report from photos, although I might be able to guess at the date.

[quote="Steve W"]I found this link.(hope it is OK to post).
They charge $3 (US) to determine the age.
No problem
Pat send me a number by email
#10411 which would put her piano c1895 to 1900
unless the # was a number she could not read.

Thank you Lanc
Thank you for your info re: #10411.
When i opened up the top there was a metal plate with that number, and a beautiful gold seal with manufacturer's (Ludwig and Company N.Y.) warranty in the center - that part of the piano looks like new.

The little I do know about the US market is that pianos form 50 to 100 years old don't sell as well as they do in the UK However, ones over 100 years tendSteve W wrote:Thanks, guess it is not quite an antique.
How would I find out what I could sell it for?
One key does not stay up and three of the black keys broke off even with the white keys and it could use refinishing.
$800-$1000 ??
to sell better in the US.
It is difficult to place a value on a piano you have not seen and have no inside info on local market forces, but at a wild stab I would say more like $100 to $400 the best person to ask is your local piano tuner as I may be way off the mark
