Gors & Kalmann Baby Grand Piano Serial Number

Hi,
I purchased a Gors & Kalmann Baby Grand Piano for my children in 2003. I have been trying to discover the age of the piano but have not been able to find a serial number. It has a Schwander Action with the number 100 248 GK on it. It also has a beautiful graphics (in gold writing) on the sound-board detailing the awards won by Gors & Kalmann from 1886 - 1911. I know the piano must be older than 1911 because of this graphics! It also says that it was made in London. Does anyone know where the piano serial number might be hiding?

I think you mean younger than 1911?

If you inspect the Schwander action further, there should be a long number. Being after 1911, it should be in excess of 670,000, and I may be able to date it. Most makers do not have a single, standard position for their numbers, but G&K grands are sometimes numbered under the strings, near the dampers.

The only other number I have found is 509 which I assume is a part number so I will keep looking and get back to you if I find another number that I think might help me in my quest to find the age of this piano.

The number may be imprinted in removable parts such as the blocks at the ends of the keyboard, or music desk or legs, but I don't recommend taking the legs off! You could get underneath with a torch and see if there are any numbers there, but make sure the legs are safe and solid first.
