Henry McIntosh Edinburgh

Looking for information on Henry McIntosh Edinburgh upright Piano.
It has been in the family for over 30 years but I cannot find any history on manufacture etc.
Any help appreciated !!!

Not heard of that name myself. A relatively unknown name on a piano does not necessarily mean its a manufacture name - it could have been added later by a retailer, or an alias name from another company. The original name could have been removed during re-polishing, and a decal added later. The fact that the piano has been in your family for over 30 years does not mean anything aswell regrettably.

Have a look inside the piano for further clues, and send a photo or 2. The original name might be inside the piano near the tuning pins......

Henry Mcintosh was at 130 George Street in the 1880s and 1890s, then seems to have disappeared. He appears to be a retailer rather than an actual maker.

I also have a Henry McIntosh piano. It is an upright, very old and has been in our family from new and 5 generations of us have played on it. It has the manufacturer's label of Hagspiel, Dresden in gold leaf. And beneath that I can just make out a faded label that reads; "Made for Henry McIntosh, 130 George St, Edinburgh.

It seems a very good build quality and bloody heavy (nearly killed the team of piano movers getting it into our home). The sound board, treble and bass bridges are in excellent condition and it even appears to have the original strings (which I think is why the last tuner left it a semitone under pitch). It plays well and the action is surprisingly good considering its age. On that subject, I was trying to work out how old it was. My great grandmother owned it originally and working back, assuming she was around 25 when she got it, I had a rough date of 1893. The information here possibly means it was pergaps a little older if Henry dissapeared in 1890.

Is there anywhere to find out more information on Henry or Hagspiel pianos? It does have some internal numbers and other information. I would love to know more about it.
