Waddington & Sons piano from Chapman & Chapman
Trying to find out anything on this upright piano I have. Has beautiful inlay on front with 2 candleholders on front, can't find any serial numbers on it, but numbers stamped int the wood when you open the top. on the right side numbes 4513 and a 17 turned sideways, on the left side numbers 64576. In gold on front says Chapman and Chapman London, and Waddington and Sons Ltd. on inside. Can any one tell me where to go to find out history and about how old it is?

The piano was made by Waddingtons, who were originally at York, and became Ltd. around the twenties. I have no information ready on computer about Chapman & Chapman, but I'll see what I can find on card and paper files. I am not quite sure why you say there are no serial numbers when you actually quote several numbers. Unfortunately, no dates of Waddington numbers are available, but with sconces (candleholders) I doubt if it is later than the twenties. Have a look at my Datemarks page at http://www.pianogen.org

It may seem that Waddingtons were using the name "Chapman & Chapman", but in reality, Waddingtons were the makers, and Chapman & Chapman were probably just retailers.
