I have a Sturne baby grand piano. As it had Harrods on it I contacted their piano department some years ago. It was apparently made, I think by an English firm, in the 1930s and given a German-sounding name because that sounded more upmarket! Sadly I have mislaid the information I was given and now Harrods have closed their piano department. It’s still a lovely piano though.

This is one of many names that always seem to be used on modernised British pianos that have lost their original name transfers. The transfers were available for a few pence, and these meaningless names are a joke in the piano workshops. See

Harrods may have closed their piano department but they are still willing to provide information they have from their stock books. In August last year a friend wrote to them about the Bechstein grand that is kept in a local library. It had been supplied as a used piano by Harrods in 1946.
