B. Stanley & Son, London
Post by lindaquelch@gmail.com »
Hi
I have been given a piano manufactured by B. Stanley & Son London. The selling agent was J.D.Cuthbertson & Co, Glasgow.
I have been able to establish that the agents were selling pianos from the 1890s to at least the 1930s.
I have not been able to find out anything about the manufacturers.
Inside is also imprinted by the keys 'Herrburger Brooks Ld'.
I am interested in learning more about the history of this piano. Can anyone help??
Thank you!

Sounds like a quote from me! Cuthbertsons cerainly were there in that period, but I know very little about Stanley, I'll see what I can find. Herrburger Brooks Ltd. made the action and/or keys for Stanley some time after 1919.

Re: B. Stanley & Son, London
Hello, I read with interest all the posts after typing in 'J.D. Cuthbertson'. I worked in the cash office of Cuthbertsons from 1966 to 1968 as a 20-22 year old assistant cashier. I have fond memories of Cuthbertson as the best jo/employers I've ever had, I only left to get married and moved to London with my new husband. Old Mr Cuthbertson was a dapper old gentleman who used to amble around putting sweets on desks; he couldn't quite get used to retirement and was well loved by all the staff. The cash office was situated on the 2nd floor, between the piano salon and the piano workshop so they were still selling pianos in 1968. The cashier, an elderly 'Miss' had been with Cuthbertsons all her life and 'grew up' with J.D. It was a busy and vibrant store, the ground floor was the hub and sold guitars and stringed instruments, brass instruments, sheet music, records, record players/cabinets and the staff actually KNEW about their particular field. It was THE place for up and coming young pop musicians to purchase their instruments. Happy days.
