John Brinsmead & Sons Upright Piano 43599

Post by Niellyg »

Hello

I have the aformentioned piano, and was hoping that someone in the know would be able to give me a broad indication of the piano's value

as stated, It is a Brinsmead upright piano, ref 43599, which i presume is late 1890's ?

The piano itsself is in very good condition

sorry if this is a little scant of detail, but i am only really looking for a broad indication of value

thank you kindly

I'm no expert but I believe a piano of this age without any specific very special history, would be worth whatever you could get for it.
I was playing the piano in a zoo, when the elephant burst into tears. I said, "Don't you recognize the tune?" He replied, "No, I recognize the ivories!"

Impossible to give it a value unless you pay someone to tune & assess it, since valuation goes on condition - not just the casework/ keys, but most important the internal mechanism - hammers, dampers, strings etc.....

Your piano serial number suggests around 1895 - 1896 - so remember its a very old piano & well over 100 yrs old. Pianos of this age, even with a half-decent name struggle to get over £50 at auction - and even have to start at £1 to get a glimmer of hope & interest!

If the casework is immaculate (no scratches) and the keys in good condition (but who knows about inside?) - try around the £50 - £100 - private sale, but don't be greedy! The piano will also be worth ALOT LESS than you paid for it - pianos of this name & age rarely appreciate in value, unless its overstrung, under damped and has a decent amount of work done on it. If its straight-strung/ over damped - forget it - try £20 - £50. Value also goes on the mechanism design, so thats why its best to get it checked over.....
