Barrington piano
Post by Sabrebeau1 »
I recently purchased a home which came with an old piano. I am trying to research its history. The front nomenclature appears as follows:
Barrington
Made Expressly for the Hepburn Brothers
219.223 St. Georges St.
Glascow & Branches
<registered>
I hope this is of some assistance and I appreciate any and all help.

This was an alias used on pianos bought in from an anonymous wholesaler, and sold by Hepburns. This is all I have ready on computer, but I'll see what I can find on card and paper files. Is there a number inside the top?
1899 Kelly's Directory of the Furnishing Trades; Pianoforte Makers & Warehouses include Hepburn Brothers, 219 & 223 St. George's Road, Glasgow.
Circa 1905? Barrington piano #24,500 is marked "made especially for Hepburn Brothers, 219 to 223 St. George's Roads, Glasgow". Vertical strung, overdamper, inside pedalling, 3-panel inlaid top door, sconces.
1911 Kelly's Directory of the Furnishing Trades; Pianoforte Makers & Warehouses include Hepburn Brothers, 6 Well Meadow, Paisley, N.B.

Mister Kibby,
Thank you for your insightful information on the piano in question. I will attempt to locate a number in the top. Is there a certain area that I should be looking at? I appreciate your patience and diligence in this matter.
