Brooklyn Piano /Pigott & Co. Serial nr. 11545

A dear friend of mine gave me this ould girl and I'd really love to know more about her. I can see that she is a Brooklyn Piano and was sold by Pigott & Co. in Dublin Ireland. But I'd love to know what year she's from and anything else you can tell me about this 'ould girl' . She's had a good life, needs a bit of TLC but still look and sounds great. Just one or two off keys, but that will be sorted soon.

There is a number set in under her lid of 11545 if that helps. She also has two brass candle holders on each side.

It was probably made shortly before 1911. Originally Green & Savage, who made a model called "Brooklyn", and changed the name of the company some time after 1900. They are sometimes dated on the iron frame. The actions are often made by Schwander, and if you know how to remove the action safely, it may have a Schwander number on the rear of the hammer rail.

Thank you for your reply Bill. Much appreciated. I will check on the iron frame. Not sure what 'actions' means but I have an idea where the hammer rail is. Thanks I'll give it a try but just knowing where my 'ould girl' has come from is great.

Ahh, got it. Thought it was something like that. Thanks for your help. Will look out of the numbers when I give her a nice good clean out. At the moment she's a haven for spider webs (no spiders though, thank goodness ). Thanks again.

She is a beautiful piano Celia! Mine is of a similar age- he too has sconces- well the hinges- someone took them off ( not the people I got him from) sadly. I am going to get him some new ones one day.

I'm so pleased I'm not the only nutter who loves her piano . When I got her the friend told me that it had very small candle holders on the front, but then I realized that someone had removed the parts that slide into the hinges. They were not very small candle holders but the bottom part of the hinges (sconces). Same here, one day I will see if I can replace them. It would be great to have her back to her new self.
