Oliver family from Ireland

Post by RosieC »

Do you know anything of the Oliver family from Ireland (Dublin area)
who were involved with developments of the upright piano?

Re: History of the Upright Piano

I have nothing ready on computer, but I will see what I can find in my
early Dublin lists. Unfortunately, huge numbers of people made
developments in pianos, and many had a habit of over-stating their
own importance. I have known instances where the story was passed
down a family, when it was really just a sales line. I would have thought
that if it was an important development, we would know about it. Do
you have any idea of the dates when Oliver was around?

Further investigation seems to indicate that George William Oliver was in fact in Liverpool. had a successful piano patent and went bankrupt in 1878 but we can't find anything else. Anything you could add would be fantastic. Thank you.

You could try esp@cenet for the patent. I have nothing that early for Liverpool yet, one of many areas of funding that we lack!

Sorry, it seems to be espacenet and not what I said. I couldn't find Oliver there, but there are other patents sites. There was a G. Oliver who had a piano patent in 1877, but I have no details, number 4924 29 December 1877.
