Jenn Brothers Piano History

Post by pisgah »

Sorry if I'm not doing this correctly as I don't normally post so not to sure about it.

I have a beautiful Jenn Brothers piano and would like to find out more about it's age and history. It is a lovely piece of furniture but needs some light restoration work on the top lid and I don't think it's been tuned for donkey's years. The fret work is still in very good condition. It is out of tune but does have a lovely tone. I have taken some pictures of it and would be happy to send them to anyone who wants to see them.

It says under the lid "Jenn Brothers, makers to the London Academy of Music, 43 1/2 Hemingford Road, Barnsbury, N" and the sole agent is "Muirhead & Turnbull, Glasgow" it also says that it's an "Upright Iron Grand" and there is a number inside 1120.

Can anyone please help.

Jenn Brothers were established in 1874, and were at Heminford Road by 1886, where they stayed at least until the thirties. It is not possible to tell any5thing about this one by the number. If yo would like to email photos to me, I may be able to estimate the date.

Hi - I may be able to help with some background information as I am a 'Jenn' descendant.Whilst I haven't found out a great deal about the family business, I can supply some background on the Jenn family - there were a number of Jenns involved in various aspects of Piano making & tuning.

I would also be very interested in any pictures you have as, apart from one set of photos of a Jenn piano in Ireland, I have never actually seen one!

If you would like to email me, we could swap notes on various members of the Jenn family.
