Gaveau piano from 1941-1950, value?

Post by nenne »

Hi, unfortunately I know way too little about pianos and would like some help.
I have a beautiful upright Gaveau piano in good condition made between 1941-1950.
Does anyone know the value of such a piano? I might have to sell it since I'm moving :-(
would appreciate a quick response

thank you, I understand you can't give an exakt value.....but is there no way to get an estimate.....
as in definitely not less that.... or more than.....
right now I don't know if I should give it away or place it on a nice auction or if it's even worth paying someone to come look at it ....

just some advice.... always expect less than what you paid for it - pianos deteriorate. Book a tuner who will inspect it for you - and maybe incorporate a tuning into the visit - it will sell better in tune (assuming all notes work?)
Don't overlook auctions - ring one up, and they may be able to give you an estimated value, if there is one in your area. Ask about commission fees.

Finally, a piano tuner sometimes buys & sells pianos, or ask a piano shop/trade, but expect less money. If they are interested, and you accept, the sale will usually be quick & removal will be painless.

Nobody anywhere can guess the value or condition of a piano without tuning it.
