Colonette ? Piano

Post by DaveG »

We have recently inherited a small piano. We have been told its ' an octave short'. There is very little on it except 'COLONETTE' inside the lid above the keys and the number 107970 stamped in the wood on the rear and also under the keys.
We think it was purchased in the family around 1940/50's
Does anyone out there have any idea what make this might be or know anything that might help us identify it. We are not looking to sell it as it has sentimental value to us.
Thanks

The nearest I can think of is "Coronet", but it may be one the of the "Colonial Pianos" made for export to the extreme climates of the empire. Are you in the UK?

Names are often lost or changed when a piano is repolished. The size and apparent layout of the piano, together with the round lock escutcheon and distinctive pedal feet, all make me think that this is a version of an Eavestaff Minipiano, but I have never seen one this shape, and the number would suggest 1932 - before they made them. Are the tuning pins inside a flap under the keyboard, or inside the top?
