Uebel & Lechleiter, and also Clementi.
Can any one help me with two queries please. Why have some Uebel and Lechleiter pianos got the harp shape cast into their piano frames in the centre of the pin block and others have the serial number in that spot? Both have the medallions on the right hand side. Is this a model or a quality difference. The next query is regarding a Clementi upright piano. What company is using this name in a piano that is approximately 1880 to 1890 by the style i have seen. I cannot find any reference to this modern maker. Hope to hear from somenone soon.

I can't explain every little change like this, by everty maker, and I don't know if you will find anyone who has seen a sufficiently large quantity of Uebel and Lechleiter pianos to answer. As for Muzio Clementi, he died in 1832. Can you email photos of this piano to me?

Re: Re Uebel and lechleiter and Clementi.
Hello, with the Uebel i have come to a dead loss with info, i contacted the company to no avail as they never replied. i made several phone calls to people who may be in the know in Australia, no one seems to know but from viewing a few of them i feel the non harp models dont seem to be the quality of the others, i do stress this is my opinion only which probably is worth nothing. I did get told that some of the non harp models had another name placed on their fallboard when imported at a certain dealership.if this is correct or not who knows as its in the past. Anyway maybe someone will be able to clear this up for me one day. The Clementi i saw by pic has a Clementi name on fall board which of course is not the original Clementi, the piano got me excited as i thought before pics arrived to my email it might be an original but alas its just a late 1880's piano.I then got curious to who made these later ones. I searched but found nothing. I will not send a pic until i ask permission from the owners as its not right.I can send pics of langholdt as family here to show me.Who do we send it to? Hope to hear from you soon.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what "pics of langholdt as family here to show me" means?
My email address is always shown under my postings, or you can go to pianogen.org
Composers' names are popular as aliases on pianos, so it shouldn't surprise me that Clementi's name was used, although I can't recall seeing any of these.

Robert Allen
Post by Bill Kibby »
I should point out that you have a much better chance of responses if you deal with each separate maker in a separate posting. Robert Allen was a Scottish maker who learned his trade with Broadwoods, and so he put "From Broadwood, London" on his pianos. Single pedals were the normal, common arrangement then.

Robert Allen & Sons were based in Glasgow around 1840, I have no details ready on computer, but I will see what I can find. Robert Bansall Allen was later, in London late 1800s. The only definite date I have for Allen & Sons is 1844, when they were listed in the Glasgow Directory, as Pianoforte Makers at 109 Eglington Street.
