Dyson & Sons

Post by shiva »

Hi everyone,

I found a lovely piano in a charity shop and bought for my wife as a present. It is, as the title suggests, made by Dyson & sons, Croydon. On the top right hand inside is the number 152? There also used to be some letters in gold above the keys but most of th letters have faded away... there are severaly words possibly ?none came? are part of the letters.

I would love to find out some more history about the company, and even the history of this Piano, but don't have a clue where to start looking. Can anyone here help?

They were "Dyson & Sons, Tuners to The Queen & Royal Family, London, Windsor & Croydon" and were retailing by the 1860s, but I have no evidence that they actually made pianos, they probably just put their name on them. The firm no longer exists, and no archive material has been found to give us information about individual pianos. Any further clues will be inside the piano, so have a look at pianogen.org

Thanks for your help, I guess i'll have to settle for not knowing any more... I would have liked to restore the writing above the keys, but can't work out what it says...
