T.W.Davis Longton Upright

Hello,

Thanks for providing a place to find such information.

I've inherited a T.W.Davis (Longton) upright. Walnut veneer in very good condition but cannot find anything about it on the internet. The name and , presumably place of make (Longton), is emblazoned on the inside of the lid over the keys.

If anyone can fill me in that would be good. Many thanks.

Thomas William Davis does not appear in my files until the early 1900s, when he was in Longton, Staffordshire. The firm continued at least until the thirties, and in 1931, he advertised Pianos, Organs, Gramophones & Wireless. I may be able to find other references later. As far as I can tell, he was a retailer, one of the many who put his name onto pianos bought in from anonymous wholesalers. Many of those makers are now better-known than Davis, so whereas I know nothing about Davis' pianos, I may know the maker if he is identified. There may be clues inside the piano. Bill... Many thanks. I've had the face panels off the upper and lower part of the piano and cannot find any additional markings.

There is metal frame which has BAPI moulded into it and apart from some sort of serial number stamped into the insides of the panels, I can see little to clarify it. This piano has had a modificatoin - a heater in the base of the piano slipped in through the cloth panel at the rear.

If there anything else to look for to identify it ?
