Yamaha U1 or U3 for a small room
Hi, Hope you can help...seeking some advice please.
I am in the process of buying a second hand Yamaha piano - I have been looking at the U1 and U3, and I have set my heart on a U3, as I love the tone and sound, and have found a particular one I really like. However I realise the U3 is louder and more resonant than the U1, and my only concern is that my room is about 12' x 6' and I am wondering if it would be too over-powering ? Or if there is something I could do like put heavy curtains up that would help ? It's so hard to imagine pianos in showrooms versus how they will sound in your own house.
Any advice please ? Thanks.

I am sure you can find something more suitable for a room of your size than a Yamaha U1 or U3 and at probably a smaller price -even new!
The 2 you mention will probably blow your windows or eardrums out

U3 will be bouncing off the walls Carpets, curtains and biG scatter cushions will help the six octave can be a bit shrill in that size room it can voice it down

See if they have a smaller piano you like as well 108-112cm . If they are a decent dealer and you ARE going to buy one of them ask them to bring both and let you try for 10 mins each in the room.

Good advice. That's what we would do providing they don't live on one of the remoter islands where the church doesn't allow any goings -on on the Sabbath ---like ferries or enjoying yourself.

Thank you all for your advice - I have actually gone for the U30A anyway, because the piano is the purchase for life - where it is located at this precise moment is not. I did not want to get a smaller piano. It is loud, however the tone is so good it's a 'nice loud not a nasty loud' if you get my drift - and having removed reflective surfaces it is fine, also I use a thin rug hung behind it sometimes.
