Lange & Co. piano from Wyper

Lange pianos are genuinely german-made, often around 1900, but I have no record of such a firm in Berlin so far, and most examples show evidence of being sold by one of several scottish firms, so unless Herr Lange made a point of promoting his instruments in Scotland, it may be that this was a made-up german name used on pianos from a german wholesaler, and sold in Scotland. No dates of serial numbers are available. Wyper seems to have appeared at Cadzow buildings, Hamilton shortly after 1900, and by 1914, the address was Cadzow Street, where he remained until the early thirties...

The best bet with german panos is to get your tuner to check the action (the working parts of the notes) to see if the action makers' name and number is on the rear of it. See also
