Collard & Collard 7ft grand piano

Post by ails64 »

Hi!
I have just been to see a rather run-down Collard & Collard grand. It has a walnut finish and I think the serial no is 9712. Can anyone help date this roughly for me please?
Thanks
Aileen :piano;

If you read my Numbers page at pianogen.org you will see a specific reference to four-figure numbers for Collard pianos, and no accurate dates are available for these, although they tend to be around the 1830s. However, it is important to realise that most pianos have several numbers inside, so have a good look around. If it is that old, it may not just be run down, it may cost more to fix than it is worth.

I meant to say, if you can email photos to me, I may be able to get more idea of the likely age.
