Recently purchased Aucher brothers Piano

Post by Cheekster »

I recently purchased an Aucher Brothers Piano.
It has 50 keys.
Serial No. 16203
Modele No. 1
I'm just trying to find out more information about it as there isn't much information on the internet.

Thanks

Aucher Freres Piano

Post by Bill Kibby »

No, and what there is is often misleading! This number suggests about
1858, but I have no idea if that is likely. There are several examples on
the net which are wrongly dated. Also, there is no evidence to support
the idea that Aucher Freres invented the "Yacht Piano" with fold-away
keyboard.

1820 - #3000 is the first date published for Aucher's serial numbers, but this
is almost certainly wrong, and casts doubt on the others, because they
were not making pianos that early. Also, earlier numbers exist.

If you email photos to me, I may be able to tell you more.

As I said in my email, this looks more like an 1880s piano, but there is
very little visible evidence of date on French Pianinos, which often
looked much the same from the 1840s to the 1880s. It is possible that
the number is 1858, but various other number dates for Aucher are wrong.
