What make is this piano?

Post by Plinky »

Hi ! I've had the same piano for 21 years and in all that time have never
been able to figure out what make it is !

Today, my new piano tuner has found what may be a clue - on the frame
there is a very small raised 'stamp' of what seems to be either a small
angel with an extended wing or a small boy playing a harp.

We seem to think the piano may be French, but other than that it's a
mystery.

Anyone got any idea as to what make it could be?

Thanks !!!

What you are describing is the trademark of the foundry where the
frame was cast - Booth & Brooks. This tells us that the piano was made
in Britain. It tells us nothing about who made it, or when, but many
pianos have other clues inside. Most Harp frames that I have seen were
made between 1910 and 1933, but they usually have the date of casting
on them. Have a look at "Gen about pianos" on my pianogen website.

If you email photos to me, I may have some ideas, but if it's any comfort,
many piano names are meaningless aliases anyway!.

Thanks for that ! The fact that it was probably made in Britain, & a general era is more than I knew before, so that's great.
I may email you a photo of it just for curiosity's sake, see if you can tell me anything more. Thanks again! :)

put a pic on this forum and there is bound to be an expert who will recognise it
Our mission in life is to tune customers--not pianos.

Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it
