Bansall & Sons Piano from Salkind, Norfolk

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me anything about a Bansall & Sons Upright Piano I recently inherited from my great aunt.

It also carries the names Norwich & Cromer and Saul Salkind on it. The stamped number on the top rim is 38253.

Does any of this mean anything to anyone??? I'm looking to find out it's history.

Any help would be appreciated.

No dates of Bansall numbers are published, but by collecting details of individual pianos, I can say that the number suggests that your piano was made in 1906. Have a look at my Datemarks page at www.pianogen.org

SALKIND (Saul) Norwich & Cromer
The name transfer was used around 1905, and because of the fancy script, the name is sometimes misread as "Paul Palkind". Halesworth Museum has a clock bearing the name of Saul Salkind. He first appears in our lists after 1894.

In your opinion, is this piano worth anything selling it at this age or am I best to keep it as a family keepsake or scrap it?

Impossible to say without tuning it.

Saul Salkind was my paternal great-great grandfather, so if ever you decide to scrap it or sell it relatively cheaply, please be sure to let me know as I may be interested in it for sentimental / historical reasons.
