Hi, I am a new member and have recently bought this piano for my daughters who are learning. I had no idea what I was buying, I did a little bit of research in advance but am not musical so could only go by what I had read.
The piano tuner has just been and pronounced the piano in good shape, and says it has a really nice tone. I am now interested in the history of the piano, and see that it is difficult to find the correct serial number etc.
Pictures of the piano which show serial numbers that I can find are here:

any advice or information would be much appreciated

If that number says 179..., then that makes it 1896 by Pierce's Piano Atlas...which is not always accurate, as Bill will tell you. On the whole nice pianos, well made...but a lot depends on the life it's led since it was made!
I play for my own amazement...

Thanks for replies, the number is 17067, the other number painted on the metal is 14284. The tuner seems to think that due to lack of rust on strings, and evidence of some professional repairs it has been looked after.
I am not sure if someone else has bought the name in more recent times, from what I can gather they were shipped via London to Australia, New Zealand and America even in the early days, as there are a lot of them there and very few in Britain, though this particular one came from France.
