Age of Collard & Collard Pianola

Post by Geraldine »

Good afternoon from a first time user,

We have an uprite rosewood iron framed Collard & Collard pianola with a serial number of 30939. Can you help with identifying its age?

This number bears no relation to the published numbers, which are in 6 digits, as I explained to the posting below this one. There are often several numbers inside a piano.

Is there any name on the pianola player action or anywhere else referring to it? Is it 88 note or 65 note? Do you have a photo of the piano?

Thanks for your quick response. I am off to work now, however, will look for the information you requested later on today and post again.

Here is another photo showing the workings of the Collard & Collard pianola. I am grateful for your help with this.

Very nice. Is it a reproducing action? (does it automatically play loud and soft and accentuate notes?)

Looks mid to late 1920s to me

Yes, it is a reproducing action and has 88 notes. So you think late 1920s, thanks for that.

Hadn't Collards dropped the " copperplate" writing by the 20s? When did they go to the Roman font on the fall?
Our mission in life is to tune customers--not pianos.

Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it
