Higgins Piano

Post by Francis QUETIER »

Hi,

My name is Francis Quétier. I'm French (noboby is perfect ). I'm trying to trace an approximative datation of a piano I bought years ago; the identification is J.S. HIGGINS MANCHESTER on the metal frame and is STEELE HIGGINGS (preceeded by 3letters I can't securely identify becauce of the sophisticated font, the first one could be either P, I or J, followed by no) under the keyboard cover. The serial number on the metal frame is 293.
Would anyone have an idea?

The address in Manchester is also indicated under the keyboard cover: 7 & 9 GREEN STREET and 721-723 ROCHDALE Rd MANCHESTER

John Steel Higgins was in Manchester from at least the 1890s to the 1950s, so the name des not give any clue to date, but he is not thought to have made pianos himself, some were made for him by the Kemble factory, and have serial numbers preceded by a letter K. 293 is not the serial number.
