Erard piano with 90 notes

Post by May Vilaga »

I am doing research for an Erard piano with 90 keys. Would you have any information on such? We would like to know what year this piano would have been made and if possible, why the 90 keys?

Erard piano with 90 notes

I will make enquiries, but we can't tell the date just by the name. Can you give me the serial number, and the names of the end notes? Does it go down to G, or up to D, or what?

1851 In the Great Exhibition was an instrument by Mott with 90 notes: Our Official Catalogue of the Great Exhibition lists Mott, Isaac Henry Robert, 76 Strand - Inventor & Manufacturer. Patent metallic cottage grand pianofortes, ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The compass is nearly eight octaves.

1920s Cramer catalogue shows that they made a Drawing Room Grand which had 90 notes G-C, an unusual range.
